MOVIE QUEST

Part 1: Treasure Hunting

Where the Quest Began...

When I was a kid, my sister and I would "produce" our own plays and perform them for our single mom when she got home from work. Later, I graduated to a JVC handheld and made movies with my buddies at the local lumber yard—everything from Bruce Lee–style action to good-ol'-boy antics on forklifts. We had a blast!

When my son hit middle school, we filmed all kinds of skits together. We even had a pretty solid YouTube Channel called CAB vs. JAB where we did fun challenges. That was up until Parkland happened and YouTube striked every video with the Pew Pew in it, bar one for some reason! Which made it hard to do the content we really wanted to do, nothing like blowing up a washing machine with Tannerite!

He joined a local theater group, and he and a couple of his friends even shot a short film with a producer in the PCT community—here's the trailer: The Malevolent Place (YouTube). The funniest part? They started filming in May and couldn't finish, and by the time August came around all their voices had changed and one boy even had a mustache, so just in that little bit of time the boys had changed so much they couldn't finish the movie!

So from my childhood times spending all day putting together sets with my sister to learning how to make content with my son, needless to say I've always enjoyed the bonding that comes from it all.

All that to say: There was never a moment when designing this hunt that I wouldnt include a film aspect to it!

So here's a call to you:
Hunt up your best buddies, your family, or your theater crew and submit a medium-length film for Movie Quest – Part 1!
